Nubian Dairy Goats

The Nubian Dairy Goat is a popular breed known for its high butterfat milk, distinctive long, floppy ears, and Roman nose. It originated from a mix of African, Indian, and Middle Eastern goats, refined in England into the breed we recognize today.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: Nubians are large dairy goats, with does weighing at least 130 lbs (59 kg) and bucks reaching 160 lbs (73 kg).
• Color: They come in a variety of colors and patterns, including black, brown, and white.
• Distinct Features: Their pendulous ears and convex facial profile make them easily recognizable.

Milk Production

• Butterfat Content: Nubian milk has a high butterfat percentage (around 4% or higher), making it ideal for cheese and dairy products.
• Milk Yield: They produce 4–6 kg (8–13 lbs) of milk per day, depending on diet and genetics.

Behavior & Uses

• Temperament: Nubians are friendly, vocal, and social, often forming strong bonds with their caretakers.
• Breeding: They have a longer breeding season than most dairy goats and can breed year-round.
• Primary Use: Primarily raised for milk production, but historically they were also used for meat.
